Meet the candidates!
Chris was elected to the Hasbrouck Heights Council in 2017. He is the Commissioner of Transportation which oversees the Senior Transportation Bus & Deputy Commissioner for Social Services. He is also the Access for All liaison.
Professionally, Chris is the Director of Legislative Affairs at NJ Motor Vehicles Commission. Prior to that, he worked for for HPAE, NJ's largest healthcare union, and previously spent 11 years working for District 38 Legislators Connie Wagner & Tim Eustace.
Chris and his husband Patrick were married in 2016 at The Ivy Inn.
"Public service has always been a calling for me, it's why I became a lawyer and do the the work I do, day in and day out. Helayne Weiss, has lived in Hasbrouck Heights for over 20 years with her husband, Kyle Shinall, and their daughter, Morgan. Helayne is a graduate of Clark University and received her JD from the City University of New York. Helayne has served on the Bergen County Advisory Council on Disabilities and is poised to become the next President of Women Lawyers In Bergen. Helayne ran for Hasbrouck Heights council in 2007 as an Independent and 2018 as a Democrat.
Rudy R. Baez, A graduate of prestigious Columbia University and Fairleigh Dickinson University, is the principal of a large urban high school in Union City, NJ. Baez, a former English teacher, is also an AmeriCorps alum whose service contributions include working with school leaders in underserved communities from New York City to develop and implement new school designs for the New York City Small Schools Initiative. He is the proud father of two boys, Darien (13) and Daniel (10) both of whom attend the Hasbrouck Heights Public Schools and husband to Susan Baez, an English Literature teacher at the Bergenfield Public Schools System.
